This definitely emphasis the hypocrisy of certain church member in terns of not living up to the likeness of God and why certain people stray/stay away from church. Although, a bit extreme and unrealistic in terms of story. The message is clear. I can see how maybe in the 60’s when kkk member attended church yet hated blacks or current racist laws against immigrants such as those passes in Arizona by so called Christians. This film has actual production value. Unlike some of the others I’ve seen with cheesy graphics or talking heads, this film is very well executed, has a clear message and keeps the viewers engaged.

Brett Meyer is a very talented filmmaker who is not afraid to take on sensitive subject matter. “Late” provides a talking point to the issues of hypocracy and those who claim to follow religious principles.

This sent a very powerful message about how people often do not help others and especially with the hypocrisy of them going to church as righteous people.
Nice…How true it is with people going to church to be a “good” person. Just because you go to the building once a week and put your money in the envelope doesn’t mean a thing. What people do in their day to day life shows much more of who a person really is.
In a brief two minutes you captured a social issue that troubles me the most. I can see those people walking into the Church and looking around to see who is or isn’t in attendance, only to pass judgement on others. Great job Brett.
Hey! Brett good job! Keep up the hard work & you’ll go far!!! Your job has to be hard, os just keep the old nose to the grindstone and you’ll come out on top!!!
Great, emotional video. When editing just make sure to keep the audio level from overloading. This happened particularly when the second family talked after they got out of their car. Overall video quality is great though. I appreciate the unique approach that you used.
I think Brett has captured the thoughts we all have of the “god fearing christians” and encapsulated many feelings we all have of church and state…..its these kind of people hiding behind beliefs that give fraudulent nature to the religions. What would Jesus do……probably stay and help….see to it all was ok then go about his day!!!!……and i am catholic, and i would help…..what would you do?? great job Mr. Meyer!!!!
And to think that I was there when Brett came home the first time way back then. Speaking as a Christian apologist I have to say well done. What Brett has depicted is a testimony to the far too many false converts who inhabit “steepled” buildings once a week. Christ told the church at Laodicea that he would spew them from his mouth simply for being “luke warm”. Can you imagine what his response to these nice shiny people in their shiny church would be? Well done Mr. Meyer.
I was just talking to some Irish men, one was from the south and one was from the north. As we all know the north and south have been fighting for decades. Over what? Killing over what? Bombing cities, over what? All that hate over what? Religion. It still amazes me that they represent their beliefs with destruction. The beautiful thing was that these 2 men have become best friends while residing here in the states. Hopefully they can influence more people with love instead of hate. Brett I was there when this film was just an idea, and believed in your vision then and still applaud you for it now.
Brett and I met in person over some coffee a few months ago. I was impressed with this short immediately. I think it appropriately draws attention to the seriousness of this problem which concerns churches across the country, and the world for that matter.
This contest is designed to open honest dialogue, knowing that there is a whole lot of crap in all churches that needs to be dealt with. That being said, we also know that nobody wants to change this world more than Jesus. Jesus’ strategy is to change the world through the church (Matthew 16:13-20). He’s looking to build and expand His church, His Kingdom, through those who know that He is Lord over all.
I’m interested to hear from some of you, if you’d like to share any interesting suggestions for a way forward that reverences the divinity of Christ and also carries out His teachings?
Although a bit exaggerated I enjoyed the cinematics of this entry. I do have a hard time believing most people, let alone Christians would behave like this. But maybe I’m wrong.
Bad. Just bad. Didn’t like the video at all. This exact story has been done many times by various short films I’ve seen. Theres no creativity in this at all. The least you could do is add your own spin to the story. Not use the same story thats been done before. Plus The acting is the worst I’ve ever seen. The shots are bad and I don’t really think this guy gets his point across very welll
i like this video i doubt a couple going to church would not stop to help someone in an accident but the symbolism is amazing that people only care about getting to heavan and miss the point behind the religion at least thats what i got love the video
Anyone think this dude is going to the other top 2 videos and leaving bad comments under various names? Its awfully suspicious that everytime “Determination” or “Why I don’t like Church” gets a bad comment the same person goes to this video and leaves a great comment! Shame on you dude. This is a good contest and your ruining it with your poor sportmanship.
In my humble opinion, I have found often that when a message is conveyd in an extreme or overly dramatic fashion the deliverer risks losing a large part of their audience which is often the exact opposite of intent. I personally feel that the -less is more- approach is more effective and that sublte tones provide a larger platform to catapult messages from in turn extending itself to a larger population. I feel this films target group would be somewhere between “Teen to Early 20’s”…With that being said I must commend you for putting together a ’short’ that has residual value. In that I mean to say -its digestive properties challenges one to reflect and internalize what is authentic and fraudelent in ones own life. Good overall message Brett, your work has a distinct and reconizable tone. Keep evolving and as always mad love brother…BTW, “A Day in the Life of BS” still ranks high on my list
This video could not have been pulled off by no other individual other than Brett Meyer. Not only does this video encapsulate the life theme of ‘do unto others as you would have do unto you’, but adds the overarching hypocrisy that we all face within ourselves on the day to day. Right on Bro!
Amazing job Brett Meyer. I serously stood up from my computer andclapped for you after the film was over. Standing ovation. Move over Steven spielberg Brett Meyer is here to kick your butt
I think this is a perfect example of the everyday ‘Christian’s’ idea of church and redemption. As long as they attend the church they’ve chosen and put their tithe in the basket; it doesn’t matter what else happens. Their spiritual life is contained within one hour each Sunday and this film shows that in a dramatic and frightening light. What could portray that idea better than the bad samaritan and the murderer who commit their crimes (against a non white and presumable non protestant) in order to make it to church on time. Loved it. Myers is a very mature & fearless film maker.
Very powerful film. It definitely has a powerful message that stuck out to me (intended or not). The main message I gathered was, just because you go to church does not give you the right to commit murder and get away with it. Also, just because you attend church does not make you righteous. It is a shame to praise, then turn around just to deny his own children when they are in need of your help? Stepping and sitting in church does not give you a permanent ‘rain-check’ card to throw around.
